EVENTS OF THE FINAL CHAPTER OF ILIAD
Events:

• Hector is now dead, beside the body of Patroclus.


• Achilles brought Hector’s body using his chariot.
• The gods and immortals were displeased especially Zeus but in the other
hand, Hera, Athena, and Poseidon weren’t displeased.
• Zeus sent Iris To Priam, to go out without fear to Achilles and get Hector’s
body, bearing a rich ransome.
• Priam went over the greek camp… the king passed the guards and came to
the presence of Achilles.
Events:

• Priam clasped his knees and kissed his hands.


• Achilles felt awe to a father who has lost his son.
• Priam said some words to Achilles.
• Grief stirred within Achilles’ heart. Gently he helped Priam to sit in his
side.
• Achilles said, “Let our sorrow lie quiet in our hearts. Evil is all men’s lot,
but we must keep our courage.”
• He bade his servants to wash and anoint Hector’s body and cover with a
soft robe, so that Priam can’t see it.
Events:

• Priam brought Hector home and the people of Troy have mourned.
• Helen wept. Hector‘s gentleness made Helen remember his goodnesss in
the past.
• They lamented for nine days.
• They finally laid Hector’s body to a pyre.
• This was the funeral of Hector, tamer of Horses.
