Santos Avenue in honor of Epifaño de los Santos Y Cristobál.

BLACK NAZARENE
• Life-sized image of dark-skinned, kneeling Jesus Christ carrying the cross
enshrined in the Minor Basilican of the Black Nazarene in the Quiapo
district at the City of Manila.
• Was carved by an unknown Mexican in the 16th Centuryin Mexico and
then transported to the Philippines in 1606.

• It is considered by many Filipino Catholics to be


miraculous
• It is brought out of its shrine in procession Three times
a year:
a) January 9 – anniversary of the icon’s translación
(transfer)
b) Good Friday (April 10) – The Nazarene’s liturgical
feast, commemorating and culmination of the
Pasyon
c) December 31 – New Year’s Eve, first day of its
annual novena.
