FUNCTIONAL CONSIDERATION
• Optimum heat and moisture regulation
• Good air and water vapors permeability
• Rapid moisture absorption and conveyance capacity
• Absence of dampness
• Rapid drying to prevent catching cold
• Low water absorption of the layer of clothing just
positioned to the skin
• Dimensionally stable even when wet
• Durable & Easy care
• Lightweight
• Soft and pleasant touch
Sportswear
• Thermal properties
• Sportswear design must consider the thermal insulation needs of the wearer. In hot
situations, sportswear should allow the wearer to stay cool; while in cold situations,
sportswear should help the wearer to stay warm.
Layered fabrics became common for active sportswear.
The performance of layered fabric in thermo-physiological
regulation is better than single layer textile structure
Each layer has distinct function; the layer next
to the skin is to wick away the perspiration rapidly to the
outer layer, which absorbs and dissipates it rapidly to the
atmosphere by evaporation. In doing so, it takes away
some of the body heat and keeps the body cool.
• Sportswear or active wear is clothing, including footwear, worn for
sport or physical exercise.

• Typical sport-specific garments include shorts, tracksuits, T-shirts,

tennis shirts and polo shirts.

• Specialized garments include wet suits (for swimming, diving or

surfing) and salopettes (for skiing) and leotards (for gymnastics).
Breathable Sportswear
• IN This, the high-performance micro fiber polyester fabric actually pulls
sweat away from the body and transports it to the fabric surface -where
it evaporates and leaves the skin cool and dry.

These fabrics typically are soft, lightweight, and stretchy—in other words, they
are perfectly suited for making active wear.
Basic Structure
This broad category of fabrics is used to make garments like T-shirts, sports bras, running and
cycling jerseys, socks, tracksuits, and polo-style shirts for any physical activity where the goal is
to keep your skin as cool and dry as possible.

2 LAYERS OF FABRIC ARE USED :

• Layer 1: On the inside, a synthetic material with good moisture transfer properties, e.g.
polyester, nylon, acrylic or polypropylene is used.
• Layer 2 on the outside: a material which is good absorber of moisture, e.g. cotton, wool,
viscose rayon or their blends can be placed
