• Ali is a 6 year old boy, whose parents live in the
nearby village. They come to you complaining
that he cannot see the board at school.

• Distance or near VA charts
• Measuring tape (3m/6m)
• Torch
• Prism spectacles : plano in R , 6 base down in L
• + 2.00D spectacles / trial frame
• Ishihara charts
• Recording forms for measurements
• Referral forms
• Ask about symptoms and disease

• Refer if :
• Diabees/high blood pressure
• Complain of bad vision of near
• Complain of swollen or watery eyes after reading etc
• Complain of headaches
• Poor night vision
Ask parents /teachers
• Refer if parents or teachers notice that the child:
• Holds books very close to their eyes
• Sits close to the television or black board
• Squints or squeezes their eyes half-
• shut to look far away
• Has poor concentration in class
• Leaves out words or sentences when reading
• Blinks or rubs their eyes a lot
