COMMUNICATION(CMC)
CMC is communication that takes places between human beings via the
instrumentality of computer. The acronym of CMC is computer mediated
communication.While the term has traditionally referred to those
communication that occur via computer-mediated formats (eg: instant
messaging,email,social network services),it has also been applied to other
forms of text–based interaction such as text messaging

SYNCHRONOUS CMC
• Synchronous CMC refers to
communication which occur in
real time.All parties are engaged
in the communication
simultaneously;however,they
are not necessarily all at the
same location.
• EXAMPLES:video chats,skype…
• Immediate response
ASYNCHRONOUS CMC
• Asynchronous CMC refers to
communication which takes
place when the parties engaged
are not communicating in
unison.In otherwords ,the
sender doesnot receive an
immediate response from the
receiver.
• EXAMPES:text messages, email..
• Available at any time
SOME IMPORTANT CMC
• SKYPE:skype is the most famous application of synchronic
communication because it requires users to be online at the same
time.
• VIDEO CONFERENCING: It is real time video and audio communication
between people in different location
• EMAIL: Email is the most famous asynchronous communication type
.The users produce ,send and receive mail at a computer.
• NEWS GROUPS: A newsgroup is a repository usually within the
UseNet system,where messages posted from many users at different
locations.
BENEFITS OF CMC
• It is easy for individuals to engage in communication with regardless
of time or location
• Can communicate to an unlimited number of people
• Low cost as compared to other communication methods.
• CMC allows individuals who might be intimidated due to factors like
disabilities to participate in communities.
• Anonymity encourage some users to be less defensive and form
relationship with others more rapidly
DISADVANTAGES OF CMC
• Sometimes technological mediation may inhibit the communication
process
• Unlike face to face communication ,nonverbal cues such as tone and
physical gestures are lose through CMC
• CMC may create a psychological and emotional sense of detachment
which can contribute to societal isolation
