    January 7, 1996) was a Filipino- Notable Carlos Palanca Memorial
    American fiction, poetry and nonfiction awards Awards (1956, 1961, 1965)
    writer. He was born and raised Republic Cultural Heritage
    in Tondo, Manila. His family roots are Award in Literature
    originally from Lubao, American Book
    Pampanga, Philippines. He lived in the Award (1980)
    United States for many years where he is Guggenheim Foundation
    widely credited as a pioneering Asian- Fellowship
    American writer.
