COOKIES
its American name derives from
the Dutch word koekje or more precisely its
informal, dialect variant koekie which
means little cake.
baked or cooked food that is small, flat and
sweet. It usually contains flour, sugar and
some type of oil or fat. It may include other
ingredients such as raisins, oats, chocolate
chips, nuts, etc.
Brief History
Cookies appear to have their origins in 7th
century AD Persia, shortly after the use of sugar
became relatively common in the region.
They spread to Europe through the Muslim
conquest of Spain. By the 14th century, they
were common in all levels of society
throughout Europe, from royal cuisine to street
vendors.
Types of Cookies
1. Bar cookies - consist of
batter or other ingredients
that are poured or pressed
into a pan (sometimes in
multiple layers) and cut
into cookie-sized pieces
after baking.
2. Drop cookies - are
made from a relatively
soft dough that is
dropped by spoonful
onto the baking sheet.
During baking, the
mounds of dough
spread and
flatten. Chocolate chip
cookies, oatmeal raisin
are examples.
3. Filled cookies - are made from
a rolled cookie dough filled with
a fruit or confectionery filling
before baking.
1 C softened butter
1 ½ C sugar
2 eggs
2 ½ C flour
1 ½ C choco chips
PROCEDURE
1. Soften butter, add the brown sugar
2. Mix until smooth and creamy.
3. Add egg, continue mixing.
4. Add flour, mix until thick, and soft cookie dough
forms.
5. Add chocolate chip cookies, mix.
6. Roll 1 ½ tbsp balls onto a cookie sheet.
7. Bake at 350⁰F for 8-10 mins.
