A character is a person, or
sometimes even an animal, who
takes part in the action of short
story

Types of Character

Protagonist
the character who is clearly
important in a story and often
mentioned in all major events.
Antagonist
the character who offer opposition
to the principal character.
Tritagonist
the third most main character of a
narrative, it’s also called as
supporting character.
Three kinds of character

Individual-round
(pleasing and charming) multi-
faceted, and complex personality
(adventurous, strong, creative, etc.)
Developing-dynamic
(controlled by moral force), multi-
faceted personality that changes
(from villain to good, from good to
worse.)
Static-stereotype
(accepted images), has one or two
character and are emphasized in the
story.

The setting is the time and place in
which it happens.

A plot is a series of events and
character actions relate to the
central conflict
Five important parts of plot
• Introduction: the part where the
characters and settings are
explained comprehensively.
• Rising action: the part where
scenes eventually become
complicated because of trouble or
conflict in the story.
• Climax: the most exciting part
where the interest of the readers
heightened.
• Falling action: the part that
describes the result of the climax.
• Resolution: the part of the story
where the problems is resolved.
Conflict
The Conflict is a struggle between
two people or things in a short
story.
Five common types of conflict
• Man versus self: internal battles
that characters wage within
themselves.
• Man versus society: the characters
firm belief are against norm that
the entire society as a whole
endorse.
• Man versus man: the characters
that opposed by another
character.
• Man versus nature: nature serves
as the obstacle for characters.
• Man versus supernatural: typically
those that are beyond scientific
understanding.
Theme
The theme is the central idea or
belief in a short story.

Example: Love, friendship, family,


etc.
