Case studies Based on Engineering Practices

• Case studies are descriptions of real situations that provide a context


for engineers to explore decision making in the face of socio-technical
issues.
• Case studies typically involve complex issues where there is no single
correct answer.
• Most engineering case studies pertain to engineering ethics.
Important lines to tackle the issues
• Money must not and won’t be a prime and important factor as compared
to human life and society.
• Professionals should be aware of his professional code of conduct and
liabilities of his duty.
• Should not design and construct in the vulnerable area.
• Sometimes we should rather convince the public.

Note:
Professional practices are concerned with public safety, welfare of all persons
and for the physical environment affected by their work and also subjected
to public evaluation.

• Engineer should practice their work within their realm of expertise,
they do so in a fair and ethical manner, and they should place the
good of society above their personal gain.
• Professional engineer shall not be engaged in activities or accept
remuneration for services rendered that may create a conflict of
interest with their clients or employers, without the knowledge and
consent of their clients or employers.
• Often one engineer’s decision affects the safety of countless lives.
• Professional’s work cannot be remained as a personal matter.

• Professionals committing unethical/immoral acts are subjected to a
disciplinary action if not institutionally but by the public and their
public image will become very low.
• Ready to quit the job but won’t stay silent on the cases which is
hazardous to public and environment.

association/societies. They are not free to act as what they desire.

• Quality of material will always be thoroughly
checked/verified/tested/measured in accordance to specifications
provided to supplier. So it does not matter whoever supplies the material.
• Act professionally by going to the superiors rather than taking immediate
inappropriate action such as leaking details to the press.
