By: Jhiana Palmer
GLOBALIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT

 Globalization: the process by which businesses or other organizations develop

international influence or start operating on an international scale. Or, the
process whereby ‘ the flows of trade, finance, and information between
countries are broadened and deepened so that the function as ne global
market’, as if they had no borders. For example multiple small businesses or
entrepreneurs such as craft men and women coming together to form an
organization or company to reach an international market.
 Development: the process of developing or being developed.
 Facilitator: someone or something that makes a process easier.
 Ideology: a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of
economic or political theory and policy.
IDEOLOGIES AS A FACILITATOR OF
GLOBALIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT
 This is a fairly coherent and comprehensive set of ideas that explains and
evaluates social conditions, help people understand their place in society and
provides a program for social and political actions. Each ideology can be
interpreted based on our experience in the certain situations such as
colonialism, exploitation, ethnocentrism and nationalism.
POLITICAL IDEOLOGY

Political ideology is defined as a set of personal beliefs outlining what one has
determined to be the optimal mode of social organization. These ideologies are
formed around, in the context of, or proposing the existence of a government or
state which invites the use of the law and coercive enforcement of an allegedly
“ideal” code.
ECONOMIC IDEOLOGY

 An economic ideology distinguishes itself from economic theory in

being normative rather than just explanatory in its approach. It expresses a
perspective on the way an economy should run and to what end, whereas the
aim of economic theories is to create accurate explanatory models. However
the two are closely interrelated as underlying economic ideology influences
the methodology and theory employed in analysis.
Examples of economic ideologies are Capitalism and socialism they are
considered the two most common types of economic ideology. Capitalism is
centered on the idea that governments should refrain from involvement in
business and the economy. Capitalists believe that economic markets should be
privately controlled and driven strictly by profits. Socialism follows an idea that
government should regulate economic concerns and that all citizens should have
an equal opportunity to share in the benefits. Other rarer types of economic
ideology include anarchism and communism.
SOCIAL IDEOLOGY

 Social ideology simply put is a set of beliefs and ideas regarding social
systems or aspects of the social world.
 An example, Social ideology is or norms and values within or daily society.
GENDER IDEOLOGY

 Gender ideology refers to attitudes towards men's and women's expected

roles, responsibilities and rights within society. Traditional gender ideology
places the man as the provider and the woman as the mother and nurturer.
 For example some people believe that certain jobs are for a particular sex
such as construction being for males due to their body structure and nursing
for females because of their natural nurturing capabilities.
HOW DOES ALL OF THE ABOVE TIE IN
WITH
IDEOLOGY AND GLOBALIZATION

 Ideology may easily be defined as a set of ideas and globalization as the

process by which businesses or other organizations develop international
influence or start operating on an international scale. Or, the process
whereby ‘ the flows of trade, finance, and information between countries are
broadened and deepened so that the function as one global market’, as if
they had no borders, therefore what does ideas have to do with
globalization? And which ideologies evolve around globalization? Each ideology
must be interpreted based on or experience with colonialism, exploitation,
ethnocentrism and nationalism. Main ones include: Pan-Africanism,
Negritude, Marxism, Capitalism, Indo- Caribbean and Indigenous perspectives.
Some of which I will now explore.
PAN-AFRICANISM

 Pan-Africanism is a specific ideology that states that the survival of Africa in

the diaspora should be studied and active links made to Africa as the
motherland.
