A Phrasal words (phrasal verbs) is a combination of

words or a verb with a particle ( Preposition or


Adverb). The particle change the meaning of the verb
completely.
 examples :
• She put away the cereal boxes.
• The terrorists tried to blow up the railroad station.
• It was a disgusting movie. It really turned me off .
• I hope none of my students drop out of school this
semester.
Examples :

• ask around • call around


• back up • drop back
• breakdown • cheer up
• catch up • chip in
• check in • come forward
• blow up • go ahead
• break out • end up
POSITION OF PARTICLE

 the particle is placed either after the verbs or after


the object
 examples :
• write down the word.
• write the word down.

 if the object is pronoun, however, the particle has to


be placed after the pronoun (object)

 example : write it down.
