RWANDA
• It is a small country located in the Great Lakes region of Africa; known as the
"fogs of Africa", also for its wildlife, mainly for its mountain gorillas, for its
typical cities and for the national parks and natural landscapes offered by its
mountainous landscape. Its fertile and mountainous terrain that gives it the
title of "Land of a Thousand Hills" must support the densest populations of the
African continent.
TRANSPORT
• The transport system in Rwanda is mainly centered around the road network,
with paved roads built by Chinese workers between the capital, Kigali and
most other cities in the country. Rwanda is also linked by road with other
countries in Africa, through which most of the country's imports and exports
are made. It has an international airport in Kigali, serving a domestic and
several international line, and has also limited the transport of water
between ports over Lake Kivu.
RWANDAN CULTURE
• Rwanda, unlike many other African countries, has been a unified state since
pre-colonial times composed of a single ethnic group, the Banyarwanda,
who possess a common language and a culture of their own. There are
eleven national holidays per year, while some others are occasionally
incorporated by the government. Additionally, the week after The Day of
Genocide on April 7 is an official week of mourning. The last Saturday of
each month is called umuganda, a national day of community service,
during which most businesses remain closed.
FLORA AND FAUNA
• Rwanda is a small, landlocked highland country in central Africa, famous for
its mountain gorillas, which inhabit the Volcanoes National Park within the
Virunga Massif
• In addition to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda has two other
significant protected areas: Nyungwe National Park in the south-west and
Akagera National Park in the east of the country. Nyungwe National Park is
the largest contiguous block of ancient montane forest in the region and
contains impressive biodiversity including 13 primate species and around 300
bird species (of which 24 are unique to the Albertine Rift).
