WRITING STRUCTURE
Example given
Introduction:
The chart illustrated the amount of money spent on five consumer goods (cars,
computers, books, parfume and cameras) in french and the UK in 2010. units are
measured in poundsterling.
Overview
Overall, the UK spent more money on consumer goods than France in the period
given. Both the biritsh and the French spent most of their money on cars whereas
the least amount of money was spent on parfume in the UK compared to cameras
in French. Furthermore, the most significant difference in expenditure between the
two countries was on cameras.
Body 1
In terms of cars, people in the UK spent about $450,000 on this as opposed to the
French at $400,000. similarly, the British expenditure was higher on books than the
French (around $400,000 and $300,000 respectively). In the UK, expenditure on
cameras (just over $350,000) was over double that of French, which was only
$150,000.
Body 2
On the other hand, the amount of money paid out on the remianing goods was
higher in France. Above $350,000 was spent by the French on computers which was
slightly more than the British who spent exactly %350,000. neither of the countries
spent much on perfume which accounted for $200,000 of expenditure in France but
under $150,000 in the UK.

Introduction
• Paraphrase + measurement.

What’s paraphrase?? rewrite the sentence by using your own words.
“ the chart below shows the expenditure of two countries on consumer goods in
2010”.
Suggestion:
• You can change the word “shows” with “illustrates, tells, explains, describes,
outlines, informs, highlights”.
• Specifying the countries’ name and items bought
• Find synonym for few other words
1st sentence: “the chart given outlines the money spent by people from British and
French in buying 5 different consumer goods (cars, perfume, books, cameras, and
computers) in 2010 .” -> paraphrase
2nd sentence: “the units are measured by pound sterling”

Combine the sentence:

In terms of cars, Britain spent about $450,000 on this as opposed to the French at
$400,000. Similarly, people in the UK expense their money much higher on books than
french (around $400,000 and $300,000 respectively.

• Kata respectively = jika ada 2 data digabungkan menjadi satu “hanya dipisahkan
dengan and” maka tambahkan respectively dibelakang.
