"from the beginning" (literally, "from
the head"). It is often abbreviated
as D.C.

From Italian for "from the sign", D.S. appears
in sheet music and instructs a musician to
repeat a passage starting from the sign
shown at right, sometimes called
the segno in English.
instructs the musician to go
back to the sign, and end the
piece at the measure
marked fine.
D.C. al fine, or da capo al fine, means
“from the head [beginning] to the
end.” D.C. al fine is an indication to repeat
from the beginning of the music, and
continue until you reach the final barline or
a double-barline marked with the word fine.
