ABSTRACT
Some Filipinos who live on the Philippines solely depend on marine resources for a
living. The Researchers wanted to help protect the environment from pollution that negatively
affects it and decided to create the device capable of such. This study focused on the
innovation of the previous year’s Surface Water Garbage (SWaG) Collector Bot. The idea of
adding oil skimming mechanism and solar panel was based on the recommendation made by
the previous researchers. The Surface Water Garbage and Oil (SWaGO) Collector Bot
intends to attach a functional oil skimming mechanism including Solar panel and to test the
bot’s functionality in terms of its capability to collect garbage and oil. Recovering these said
oils increases the chances of a free-living marine life. It minimizes the numbers of dangers to
underwater species due to the pollution of water. The computed F value for the test for safety
at 8 degrees freedom and 0.05 level of significance is 1.52, lower than the F critical value of
5.143, therefore, it failed to reject the null hypothesis. The computed F value for the test for
safety at 8 degrees freedom and 0.05 level of significance is 1.0, lower than the F critical
value of 5.143, therefore, it failed to reject the null hypothesis. As the mean scores for each
trial falls under very satisfactory and there is no significant difference between these ratings
for three trials, then the SWAGO Collector bot can be said to be generally safe and
functional.
INTRODUCTION
Water is essential for the survival of all forms of life. In order to help protect the environment,
the Researchers decided to continue the previous Researchers’ study, the SWaG Collector Bot
which focused on cleaning bodies of water. The motivation behind this study is the fact that
environmental changes takes place in the world which is mostly caused by human activities. This
project improves the bot wherein it has convenient features other bots do not have. SWaG, now
SWaGO with the presence of Oil Skimmer, use cylindrical bottle as a tool for skimming oil and
plastic bottles as the floater.
This bot was able to eliminate solid wastes on the water surface including oils spilled. In
addition, another container was added for the oil collected. Recovering these said oils increases
the chances of a free-living marine life. It minimizes the numbers of dangers to underwater
species due to the pollution of water. The automation feature leads the bot to wander off too
far, thus, needed the full attention of the researchers during the collection of wastes. Moreover, a
solar panel was attached, and it generates electricity by absorbing solar energy from the sun
which was used to lengthen the life span of the bot.
STATEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES
This study aims to improve the previous version of the bot.
Specifically, it intends to :
1. Attach a functional oil skimming mechanism to the Bot.
2. Test the safety of the robot.
3. Test the bot’s functionality in terms of:
• Capability to collect oil.
• Capability to collect solid wastes.
STATEMENT OF THE NULL HYPOTHESIS

Ho: There is no significant difference between the evaluator’s means for robot’s
test for functionality and safety among the three trials.
ENGINEERING GOALS

• To create surface water garbage collector bot;

• To add an oil skimming mechanism and solar panel;
• To test its functionality and safety.
RESULT
• For some reasons, during the first trial, the connection in the oil skimming device has
to be attached properly. However, after repair, the bot functions properly. Since the
computed F value for the test for safety at 8 degrees freedom and 0.05 level of
significance is 2.332, lower than the F critical value of 5.143, therefore, we failed to
reject the null hypothesis. Since the overall mean score falls under very satisfactory
and there is no significant difference between these ratings for three trials then the
SWAGO Collector bot can be said to be generally safe.
• Since the computed F value for the test for functionality at 8 degrees freedom and
0.05 level of significance is 0.674, lower than the F critical value of 5.143, therefore,
we failed to reject the null hypothesis. Since the overall mean score falls under
satisfactory and there is no significant difference between these ratings for three
trials then the SWAGO Collector bot can be said to be functional.
CONCLUSION

From the study, the Researchers were able to conclude that:

1. It is possible to attach a functional oil skimming mechanism to the bot.
2. The device is generally safe.
3. The device is functional in terms of:
a) Capability to collect garbage
b) Capability to collect oil
RECOMMENDATION

The following are the suggested improvement to be taken into the future:
• Use larger container for the oil skimmer to enable it to collect more.
• Attach GPS to determine its own location.
• Put a sorter to sort out the garbage that will be collected.
• Use a Sensor with wider range to detect obstacles from a distance.
