What is SPSS?
SPSS is short for Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences
It is a software package used for the analysis of
statistical data.
SPSS has similarities to both spreadsheet applications
like Ms. Excel and databases like Ms. Access.

What is data?
Data are facts and statistics collected together for
reference or analysis.
Data is any set of characters that is gathered and
translated for some purpose, usually analysis.
