RUNNING VOLUMETRICS

Models tab > the 3D Grid > Horizons > Tick the HC-bearing horizon > “Fluid contacts” folder >
Our contact set > tick the upper HC contact > on 3D view, it will show the intersection boundary
> Processes tab > Utilities > Make/edit polygons > create a new polyg9ns > do same for lower
HC polygon, if any, for same horizon > Processes Tab > Utilities > Volume Calculation > Create
New: Give Name > Properties tab > Contacts sub-tab > Tick: “Oil and “Gas” if there is oil and
gas > Under “No contact”, tick uppermost one if needed > “Gen. Props sub-tab: Enter N/G and
Phie values on right side (e.g. 0.5 & 0.3) “To Drop N/G, porosity, and other properties instead of adding
CONSTANT values: Create the property under “Properties” folder of the 3D model grid (of Models tab) > Make sure the
property template matches the property itself: MB3 on the property > Settings > Info > Template: Choose the correct

template “e.g. Porosity” from the drop down menue > Apply > Cancel” > Close the volumetric calculation
window and open it again > Now the property “e.g. N/G” drop down menue is not greyed out >
“Oil props. Sub-tab: “Saturations in HC… part”: Enter Sw, So, & Sg values (e.g. 0.3, 0.7, 1-Sw-
So “tick radio button in front of it” respectively) > “Surface conditions” part: Enter Bo & Rs values
(e.g. 1.49 & 178 respectively) > “Recovery factor” part: Enter REC value (e.g. 0.25) > Gas
props. Sub-tab: Enter all values of items like above, but for gas (e.g. 0.4, 0.6, 1-Sw-Sg “tick
radio button in front of it – for So”, 0.0038, 0.0001, & 0.8 respectively) Results tab >
Output sub-tab: Keep as is > Facies tab: Tick “Facies” > Select the facies property
from drop down menue > Boundaries tab: Tick: “Use filter” to run calculations on only
desired horizons (HC-bearing only) > Boundary polygons > Highlight the boundary of
intersection between HC –bearing horizon and the corresponding HC contact
(created in last slide) > in Input tab (create it if not yet created) > Drop it by clicking:
“Drop in boundary polygon” arrow icon to delimit > Run > Apply > Check report >
import to excel > Use Excel functions to automatically do the following step: Convert
units: Million Cubic Meters to Million Cubic Feet: Multiply by: 35.31, Million Cubic
Feet to Billion Cubic Feet (BCF): Divide by 1000, Million Cubic Feet to Million
Barrels (MMSTB): Divide by 5.615 > Review authenticity of input parameters and
better compare it to previous example of acceptable volumetrics calculations > If
results are still not logical, try to find the odd input parameter(s) by trial and error.
IMPORTANT NOTES: (1): To confine volumetric calculations to only gas and/or oil zones: Results tab
> Boundaries sub-tab > Tick: Us efilter > Models tab > Zone filter > Tick only the oil and/or gas zones
> Run. (2): To realistically increase GBV: Results tab > Boundaries sub-tab > Tick: Well boundaries >
Tick: Well name(s) involved > Well influence radius > Enter a large number, e.g. 70000 > Run > You
will notice increase in Bulk volume and reserves. (3): To customize the voluetrics table information:
Results tab > Output sub-tab > Click: Report settings > Untick un-needed columns > OK > Run. (4): To
reduce number of volumetrics maps created: Results tab > Output sub-tab > “Make volume height
mao: column > Untick unneeded maps > Do same on the left “ Make property” column > Run.
To QC Created HC Contacts, Display them on an intersection window as below
