DANCE
Ballroom dance
is a set of partner dances which
are enjoyed both socially and
competitively around the world.
The term ‘ballroom dancing’ is
derived from the word ball
which in turn originates from
the Latin word ballare which
means ‘to dance’

SAMBA
Samba, an old Brazilian style of dance with
many variations, is African in origin. It has
been performed as a street dance at
carnival, the pre-Lenten celebration, for
almost 100 years. Many versions of the
Samba (from Baion to Marcha) are danced
at the local carnival in Rio. Today Samba is
still very popular in Rio.
CHA-CHA-CHA
It is called cha-cha is a dance of
Cuban origin. It is actually derived
from Mambo. It is fun, flirtatious
and energetic dance with lots of hip
movements and fancy foot work.
The basic pattern involves the lead
(usually the man) taking a checked
forward step with the left foot,
retaining some weight on the right
foot.
JIVE
A form of “SWING DANCE” is a
lively, energetic dance
combining quick footwork and
grateful arm movements with
swirls and dips. Originated in
the US (United State) from
African Americans in the early
1930s.
“Jive” was an expression
denoting glib or foolish talk
FOXTROT
Is a smooth, progressive dance
characterized by long continuous
flowing movements across the
dance floor. It involves the back
leg and moving it in a smooth
motion. It is a very easy to learn
and great for beginners
Salsa
The word Salsa means "sauce" in Spanish
language from Cuban origin.
Salsa is normally a partner dance,
although there are recognized solo forms
such as solo dancing "suelta" and "Rueda
de Casino" where multiple couples
exchange partners in a circle. Salsa can
be improvised or performed with a set
routine.
