Cliff house should be set on “cherished lake”.

Extraordinary surroundings.
Building elements with natural assets of the site and terrain.
The rock formation of the cliff using the same local granite to form its base.
A central core – circular movement ,light and air into the living space.
Pinwheel and cantilever off into the landscape.
The residence easily accommodates the family of four by providing amenity for dinning, cooking, living, reading
and sleeping which are each carefully tuned to the unique view, light and breezes of the cliff.
Operable window – central circulation space.
Designed to make use of the stack effect so that hot stale air is vented out and cool fresh air is drawn in.
SITE PLAN
To balance the heavy mass derived from the fireplaces; cantilevered
volumes, flying roofs and floor to ceiling glass are used to achieve a
lightness of form as it works to bring the lake into the living spaces.
U-SHAPE STAIRCASE
They are 2 tiered approach :
 1) To take advantage of both passive strategies which work to
reduce energy loads .
2) The active strategies are sufficient to provide for the remaining
energy needs.
 Solar mass strategy – Advantage of the sun’s daily passage
The movement of air in different seasons for each space.
In summer - solar shading limits heat gain while operable windows
are orientated to take advantage of natural ventilation.
Green roof – Mediate temperature , control sunroof .
In winter - optimized glazing and solar orientation.
It is used to thermal mass form of concrete slabs and stone walls.

Interiors are simple though vibrant , because of use of a triadic
colour scheme for furnishings and monochromatic scheme of
brown for walls , ceiling and floors.

Horizontal and vertical lines are the distinctive features of the building.
Spaces are designed to bring the nature to inside.
A stream flows at 1298 feet above sea level and suddenly breaks to fall at 30 feet.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed an extraordinary house.
Falling water that redefined the relationship between man, architecture, and nature.
 It is a weekend house.
It consists of two levels of living areas.
Both the living areas extend up to the waterfall and give a good view of the surrounding
countryside.

living room , which extends in different
directions in the ground floor.
As staircase leads directly leads to the
waterfall.
Terraces, balconies , kitchen and

than the first and has only one bedroom
with an adjoining roof terrace.

pattern in such a way that they are

Architect - LIJO.RENY.architects
Location - Kanjirappally, Kerala, India
Area - 3190.0ft2
Project Year - 2015
As some portions have natural concrete finish, painting was needed
only in the remaining areas.
Altogether, including the final coats, painting the entire house took
them just a day and a half.
 Elements that beautify come naturally without making much noise.
 Elements like the reusable aluminium windows are ecofriendly too.
A vault style roof or a roof in the form of arches is the highlight.
With natural surroundings.
Kanjirappally – contrasting climatic situations.
The shape of the roof allows the heat to escape faster
from the house without trapping it inside.
With long heavy monsoon and schorching sun.
 The vault roof and the stone walls play a part in controlling the heat
inside the house.
 There is enough rainproofing for the house.
The walls have been provided with slits and pivoted glass added.
These can be opened or closed as per need.
It does to some extent allow the heat to escape.
The plants on the exterior courtyards around the house helps to block the
dust from the roadside and offers some amount of privacy too.
 Another benefit of the vault roof is the exceptional room
height of 14 feet instead of the usual 10 feet.
The aluminium windows and the sliding doors are the
reusable kind.
There are no overthetop decorative elements.
Elongated design.
 The house is effortlessly tucked into the gentle slope of
the site.
 Way - reduces the scale of the house being visible from
the road.
 Abuts the three sides of the site.
 Two primary linear bays of vaulted rooms.
The open to sky courtyards are especially enjoyable during
the rains.
The rain that falls on the roof is filtered and channelled to
the well through the courtyard.
The stone walls of the courtyard seems like a compound
wall.

The courtyard is also connected with such green elements.

 The house will look like it is in a cradle of green.
Different colour flowers and leaves for different seasons.
 A courtyard makes the connection between the two
sections.
 On one side of the courtyard is the living room, the dining
room and the kitchen
 On the opposite side are the 4 bedrooms set one behind
