LEADERSHIP
INTRODUCTION

 When you are appointed as Chairperson, you

have major responsibilities; it is up to you to lead
a group through the intricate process of resolving
an issue.
 You should know about the three different kinds
of leadership and its functions before, after, and
during the meeting- to be effective.
 LEADERSHIP is the ability to influence others,
with or without authority.
Or

 LEADERSHIP is about playing to strengths and

addressing weaknesses in the most productive
and efficient way possible. It's about knowing
your team and yourself, and doing your best job
to set both up for success.
LEADERSHIP STYLES(KINDS)

 Authoritarian.
 Leaderless.
 Democratic, Participative.
AUTHORITARIAN
AUTHORITARIAN

 It is a leadership style characterized by

individual control over all decisions and little
input from group members. Authoritarian
leaders typically make choices based on their
ideas and judgments and rarely accept advice
from followers.
 Also know as Autocratic Leadership.
AUTHORITARIAN
Avoid the following characteristics typical of
authoritarian leader:
 Shows contempt for some members,
 Dominates the discussion,
 Praises those who agree with his or her position,
 Speaks often loudly,
 Issues orders and commands,
 Suggests that higher authority supports his or
her position.

Such leadership characteristics do not belong in

our current system of group meeting.
LEADERLESS
 This is almost as bad as authoritarian style, but
here the leader delegates all direction and
decision making steps to other.
 This person believes in shared leadership,
allowing high-ability people to run the meeting.
 While sometimes successful, there is need for
someone to offer some guidance, some positive
feedback to the group that something has been
achieved.
DEMOCRATIC, PARTICIPATIVE
DEMOCRATIC, PARTICIPATIVE
 You live in a democracy, you that all points of view
have the right to be heard.
 You also know that in such an environment the group
has the final authority, that group will vary in their
ability to make decisions.
 Your major goal is to help the group make the best
decision possible rather than force them into it.
 You facilitate productive group discussion, invite
minority opinions, evaluate unsupported
generalizations, and clarify vague statements.
Realize that business discussions take time,
are frequently disorganized, are in need of
good guidance Before, During, and After a
meeting.
ROLES AND ACTIVITIES OF LEADERSHIP
The 4 Roles of Leadership® is for leaders at all
levels who want to significantly improve their
strategic thinking, long-term vision and positive
influence on others.

 Path finding
 Aligning

 Empowering

 Modeling
ROLES & ACTIVITIES OF LEADERSHIP

 Path finding: The Pathfinding role helps you create

a blueprint of action and ensure that your plans have
integrity before you act.
 Aligning: Organizations are aligned to get the
results they get. Think about that. If you are not getting
the results you want, it is due to a misalignment
somewhere - and no amount of pushing, pulling,
demanding or insisting will change a misalignment.
Therefore, as a leader, you must work to change your
systems, processes and structure to align them with the
desired results you identified through pathfinding.
ROLES & ACTIVITIES OF LEADERSHIP

 Empowering: Releasing the Talent, Energy, and

Contribution of People "Empowerment" - it's an
overused term but under-utilized in practice.
Empowering isn't abandoning people, letting them
"figure it out" on their own.
 Modeling: Building Trust with Others - the Heart of
Effective Leadership The 4 Roles of Leadership does not
just teach you what a leader does, but who a leader is.
You learn the essential balance between character and
competence: an individual of high abilities will never be
a true leader if his or her character is questionable.
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
 Integrity
 Because they know who they are, effective leaders
are also aware of their weaknesses.

 Honesty
 Leaders convey an aura of honesty in both their
professional and their personal lives.

 Trust
 Effective leaders earn the trust of their followers and
act on behalf of their followers.
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
 Curiosity
 Leaders are learners. They wonder about every
aspect of their charge. They find out what they need
to know in order to pursue their goals.

 Risk
 Effective leaders take calculated risks when
necessary to achieve their objectives. If a mistake is
made, the effective leader will learn from the mistake
and use it as an opportunity to explore other
avenues.
WAYS TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP SKILLS

 Learn to communicate clearly

 Find better ways to do things

CONCLUSION
 A leader may be of various types but a true and
competent leader is one that encompasses all the
aforesaid qualities.
 It is essential for a great leader to be dynamic and
constantly evolving so that he/she may lead the team
in the most apt and beneficial manner.
 Having a wide knowledge and diverse background
will not only help make well informed decisions but
also increase the level of compassion.
 The perfect leader is one which has a blend of all the
characteristics and can call upon his attributes to
meet the necessary situation at hand.

do it all himself, or to get all the credit for doing
