Cut, shape, and assemble wooden articles or set up and operate a variety
of woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, and mortisers, to
surface, cut, or shape lumber or to fabricate parts for wood products.
Lay and install carpet from rolls or
blocks on floors. Install padding
and trim flooring materials. Apply
blocks, strips, or sheets of shock-
absorbing, sound-deadening, or
decorative coverings to floors.

hand and power tools.

Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood,
plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools.
Prepare detailed drawings of architectural designs and plans for
buildings and structures according to specifications provided by
architect. May be specialized, as an electrical draftsman, architectural
draftsman, plumbing draftsman, etc.
Apply plasterboard or other wallboard to ceilings and interior walls
of buildings.
Repair, adjust, and install all types of electric household appliances.
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. May install or
service street lights, intercom systems, or electrical control systems.
Install, service, and repair heating and air-conditioning systems in
residences and commercial establishments.
Inspect structures using engineering skills to determine structural soundness and
compliance with specifications, building codes, and other regulations.
Inspections may be general in nature or may be limited to a specific area, such as
electrical systems or plumbing.
Works with existing structures and client preferences, adding
backgrounds such as floor, window, and wall coverings as well as
furnishings.
Plan, design, and furnish interiors of residential, commercial, or industrial
buildings. Formulate design that is practical, aesthetic, and conducive to intended
purposes, such as raising productivity, selling merchandise, or improving
lifestyle. May specialize in a particular field, style, or phase of interior design.
Plan, design, and/or create land areas for such projects such as home
exterior planning or parks and other recreational facilities, airports,
highways, hospitals, schools, land subdivisions, and commercial,
industrial, and residential sites.

Estate management is a related career in which the agent manages large housing
units such as apartment buildings. They might interview prospective tenants,
maintain the property, collect the rents, and report to the building owner.
Makes presentations to clients, assisting them in decision making about
purchases related to the home. Space planners, color specialists, textile
specialists, furniture showroom salespeople, lighting specialists,
furniture restorers, etc. are just a few of the specialty areas.
Cover roofs of structures with shingles, slate, asphalt, aluminum, wood,
and related materials. May spray roofs, sidings, and walls with material to
bind, seal, insulate, or soundproof sections of structures.
