Care Packages: to send or not to send

Best advice received: wait for your

commander letter or for your soldier to send
you requests.

Commander letters follow one of three

avenues concerning care packages: 1) they
are encouraged with a list of approved
items to send 2) they are forbidden 3) they
are not mentioned as a form of discouraging
families to send them
Contraband

Anything not listed on the allowed items list or that could be

considered a comfort is contraband. The top item on that
list is FOOD. Do NOT send food. Nothing good comes from
sending food to future soldiers.
Army Candy

All the yelling leads to sore throats. Halls,

sugar free, menthol cough drops are
allowed and are often traded for items such
as stamps.
Care Packages:

Remember this is basic training, not a deployment. Drill

Sergeants are training future soldiers the skills needed to
survive on the battle field. Future soldiers are given
everything they need. The things being removed from them
are for a purpose. They are learning discipline and Army
values. This is not summer camp, or vacation.
