Best advice received: wait for your
commander letter or for your soldier to send you requests.
Commander letters follow one of three
avenues concerning care packages: 1) they are encouraged with a list of approved items to send 2) they are forbidden 3) they are not mentioned as a form of discouraging families to send them Contraband
Anything not listed on the allowed items list or that could be
considered a comfort is contraband. The top item on that list is FOOD. Do NOT send food. Nothing good comes from sending food to future soldiers. Army Candy
All the yelling leads to sore throats. Halls,
sugar free, menthol cough drops are allowed and are often traded for items such as stamps. Care Packages:
Remember this is basic training, not a deployment. Drill
Sergeants are training future soldiers the skills needed to survive on the battle field. Future soldiers are given everything they need. The things being removed from them are for a purpose. They are learning discipline and Army values. This is not summer camp, or vacation. References
