THE WEBSITE

Inspiration
I really liked Dodie Clark’s website due to the simplicity of it all.
The website is almost barren with a photo of her, her latest single
with video and her tour dates. With having to scroll down the
page to see the tour dates, on an already barren page, creates
the idea of prioritising the artist as a person and her music
(which can be streamed on Youtube for free) rather than
persuading the audience to buy tickets or even merchandise,
which is located on a separate website.
The grey wash over the background is very simple but adds just
a touch of colour and allows the simple, scrawling text in black
to stand out. Both Clark’s logo and the name of her new single’s
typography is very organic looking, almost like someone has
written it straight onto the screen, highlighting the personal
message of both the song and the personality of the artist.
Inspiration
Another website I liked was the artist Ben Platt’s. All of his
information was on one single page and as you scroll you
run into a scatter of pictures, a few previews of his merch
(linking to the full store) and his videos for people to cycle
through and watch. The whole website is again, simple in
concept with everything on one page, but the pictures in
the back ground make the page detailed and full of
character, almost like a collage or gallery. This idea of a
gallery of pictures can actually be seen in one of his music
videos ‘Bad Habit’ when he finds his ex-boyfriend’s art
show contains photos of him and their flat. The photos
featuring both Platt himself and the man that plays his
boyfriend in the video, Charlie Carver.
Similarly to Dodie Clark’s website, each main subtitle of the
page is written in am handwritten looking typography, thus
pushing the idea of a collage or almost a journal further.
The logo for Ben Platt, located at the top of the screen, is
typed in a style like an autograph, which could be a nod
to Platt’s time as a Broadway performer in Book of Mormon
and Dear Evan Hansen.
My website- Home page
◦ For my artist's website, I wanted to keep the aesthetics established in the music video. The
website, built through Wix, offered the pre-made design Minimal. I chose this design as I wanted
the page to be clean looking with simple elements like Dodie Clark’s website.
This template came with the option to have
each subtitle or sub section be highlighted
with a different colour, however I wanted the
background to be all one colour, as seen in
Ben Platt’s website but this time, in white.
An image of the artist is at the top of the
page with the name located on the image,
written in a bold type and underlined, like
someone wrote it on with a bold marker and
underlined it.
My website- Home page
◦ The gallery of photos match the colour palette established in the music video and the one
featured on the website. It features on picture of a girl tied in a string with a heart attached
which is in the Would You Be So Kind Music Video. I changed the colour palette suggested by
the website physically, to match the hazy yellow tones of the images in the gallery, the sun
shine in the music video and the main image of the artist which I also edited through the
website.

Applied and altered the

‘Tropical’ filter and
altered warmth and
exposer

Hazy yellows, oranges and reds.

All images are original

My website- Home page
◦ Similar to Dodie Clark’s website, the tour dates are close to the bottom of the website,
suggesting that the artist is not pushing their audience to spend money on them if they
don’t want to. I wanted to continue this idea on my website and so also had my artist
tour dates pushed quite down on the page. And, as I have added merchandise on to
my page, that is also located at the bottom of the page. This lack of stress on profit links
to the target demographic of the artist, 16-25 year olds, who will be going through
school/ saving money so may not want or afford expensive merchandise.

Prices are £12.99, £10 and £15 respectively

My website- About Me page
