What is deposition?
• the aggradation or accumulation of
weathered sediments to create landforms.
• is a geologic process in which sediments
are added from an existing landform

*deposits may come from sediments, soils or rocks

*the agents of erosion includes wind, ice, water,

or gravity
What is a bed?

• layer formed when materials are laid down

• they vary in thickness depending on the
volume of the sediments
What is sorting?
• the distribution of
grain size in a layer
Classifications
• well sorted
• clay size
• boulder size
IN A LANDFORM,
• Clasts- larger sediments
• Matrix- fine- grained sediments
Glacial Landforms

landforms created by the

movement of the glaciers
Process:

Glaciers pick up and

transport huge load of debris
as they move across the land.
These materials are deposited
when glaciers melt. All
unsorted deposits of rock
formed by ice are called
glacial till.

movement

MORAINES

• ridges of till

Medial Moraine
Lateral Moraine

ESKERS
• ridge of sand and
gravel deposited under
glacier by melted ice

DRUMLIN
• elongated features
composed of till

KAMES

• hills formed from

glacier's depression
Wind
Landforms
landforms that came form
wind force
may also be considered as an
aeolian landform
Process:

Wind carries sand and silt materials.

When deposited, well-sorted sand will
produce sand dunes while accumulation
of silts forms loess deposit.
Sediments from solutions also called
as evaporites are also formed when
temporary lakes in the desert dry-up.

LOESS
• blanket of silt
carried by wind in a
suspension and
deposited over broad
areas

SAND DUNES
• deposits of sands in
the shape of hills or
ridges
• used to describe
ridge of windblown
sand rising up to 50
meters

spreads only in the direction
of the wind. But, the goodness
of a person should spread in
all directions.
