The third level at grand central station

 Grand Central Station of New York has two levels.


 But Charley, a thirty-one year old dweller of the city,
believe in the existence of this hypothetical third level
and also claims to have been there.
A visit to his Psychiatrist friend

 Charley visits a psychiatrist friend to talk about this


problem.
 Sam calls it a “waking-dream wish fulfillment”.
 He says that Charley try to escape from “modern world is
full of insecurity , fear, worry, and war..”

 The grand station seems to be a maze.
 He loses his way a couple of times already.
 He again loses his way.
 This time he emerged in the third level of Grand central
station .
The Third level
 Charley keeps walking.
 The third level is completely different from the present
world.
 Few ticket counters, a wooden information booth , open
flame gas lights and brass spittoons.
 People dressed in outmoded outfits , men have big
mustache.
 Newspaper with date June 11, 1894.
Galesburg
 He dreamed to travel with his wife Louisa to Galesburg-
his UTOPIA.
 He exchanges 300 dollars and gets back only 200 old
style bills.
 He never bothers about loss.
 He believes everything to be cheaper in Galesburg so that
he can manage even with smaller amount.
Sam goes missing
 Louisa worries about her husband’s misconception of
Third level.
 Asks him to stop looking for third level anymore.
 Sam who knows about Galesburg was missing for few
weeks.
 He and his wife keeps looking for him in the weekend.
A letter from sam
• Charley checks his stamp collections and then he see a
unusual letter.
• The letter was dated on July 18,1894.
 It is addressed to charley.
 The letter informs Sam reached Galesburg who invites
them there.
 Sam exchanged 800 dollars for old currency.
 The letter was written by Sam wiener charley’s
psychiatrist.
