What is Baptism?

It speaks primarily of a
personal, public, identification
with Jesus Christ.

It is a symbol. It is meant to
show the world that you love,
trust and have put your hope
in God.
How Baptism Relates
to Jesus?
It means we have turned from the old life of
sin to a new life in Jesus Christ.

It means we are publicly identifying with the

death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

It means we are openly joining on the ranks of

those who believe in Christ.
Who
Should be
Baptized ?
• Every person who made the
decision to believe in Christ .
When Paul writes to the
believers in Rome, he assumes
that all of them have been
baptized (ROMANS 6)

• The requirement for baptism is

belief in Christ.
When we are to be baptized?
• Believers to the New Testament were
baptized the same day. As soon as a person
decides to believe in Christ, he can be, and
is encouraged to be baptized.

• “Those who accepted his message were

baptized.” (Acts 2:4)
How are we to be baptized?

• As per example of Jesus - by being

immersed in water.

• The word “baptise” comes from the

Greek word, which means“to immerse or
dip under water.”

• Every baptism in the Bible was by

immersion of water.
How important is your baptism?

 It is your personal identification with the greatest

act of human history- death, burial and resurrection
of Jesus Christ.

 Always remember that Baptism does not save you-

Salvation comes by faith alone.

 When you are baptized, you are also saying, “I died

with Jesus Christ. I was buried with him and now I
am raised with Christ to brand-new life.”
Do Christians Need to be Baptized?
• Our Savior commands us to follow His example in all
things, including baptism.

• Baptism allows us to demonstrate our connection

with Jesus and with our brothers and sisters in
Christ.

• When we follow Christ in the waters of baptism,

we’re publicly confessing our faith in the Savior and
identifying ourselves with Him.
• Baptism is extraordinary important, this is the
initial rite of the Christian’s obedience, but it also is
a sign that builds up the faith, not only of the
person being baptized, but of the rest of the
Church community.

• It is a symbol of our new life as a Christian. We

bury the “old life” and we rise to walk in a “new
life”.

• Baptism is like a wedding ring, it is the outward

symbol of the commitment you made in your heart.
• Baptism confirms our position “in Christ” and affirms
the blessings of the Father on us as his children. “For
we were all baptized by one Spirit nto one body.” (1
Corinthians 12:12-13)

• Your guilt before God is removed the moment you

trust in Christ. But baptism is your personal
testimony to, and the inward assurance of, your
passage from the old life to the new life. (Ephesians
2:8-9)
