HEAT

In this lesson you will be able to

answer the following questions:
1.What is heat?
2.How do heat and
temperature differ?
3.How does heat moves
from one object to
another?
What Is Heat?
HEAT
-is an energy that is
transferred from one
object to another due to
the difference in
temperature, or ‘energy
in transit’.
Thermal Energy

•Energy produce by
moving particles.
•Objects either at rest or
in motion has thermal
energy.

What Will Happen?

HOT coffee

If you leave a hot drink If you leave a cold drink on

on the table and wait for the same table and wait for
a while, does the drink a while, does the drink
heat up or cool off? heat up or cool off?
Heat Transfer
What does it mean to “transfer” something?
In this case, we are talking about movement of
thermal energy.

Three types of heat transfer:

• conduction
• convection
• radiation
No matter what type of heat transfer, it always flows from
HOT to COLD
Conduction
Conduction is a mode of heat
transfer that takes place due to the
vibrating and colliding particles of
objects that are in contact.
Convection
Convection is a mode of heat trasfer that
takes place in fluids because their
particles can move around.
Radiation
A mode of heat transfer that does not
need particles or medium to take
place.
