Tophammer
• As the name ”tophammer”
implies, the rock drill is
situated on the rig and
works on top of the drill
string.
• The impact energy of the
rock-drill piston is
transmitted to the drill bit
in the form of shock
waves.

DTH, Down-The-Hole
• The rock drill is situated
down the hole in direct
contact with the drill bit. This
means that power losses are

the feed beam on the rig and
