The purpose of BS EN
10204 is to specify the
different types of inspection
documents to be supplied to
the purchaser
Key Definitions
Non-Specific Inspection: Inspection
carried out by the manufacturer according
to his own procedures. The products
inspected are not necessarily the products
supplied.
Specific Inspection: Inspection carried out
according to product specification on the
parts that are being supplied.
Inspection documents based on
non-specific inspection
Declaration of Compliance “Type 2.1”.
 Document in which the manufacturer declares
that the products supplied are in compliance
with the order.
 No test results required.
Test Report “Type 2.2”.
 Document in which the manufacturer declares
that the products supplied are in compliance
with the order.
 Non-specific test report included
Inspection documents based on
specific inspection
Inspection Certificate 3.1 “Type 3.1”
 Document in which the manufacturer declares
that the products supplied are in compliance
with the order.
 The test unit and tests to be conducted are
defined by specification, regulation, or rules.
 The document is validated by the
manufacturer’s representative independent of
manufacturing.
Inspection Certificate 3.2 “Type 3.2”
 Document prepared by BOTH the
manufacturer's authorized inspection
representative, independent of manufacturing,
 AND either the purchaser’s authorized
inspection representative or the inspector
designated by regulations,
 declaring that the products are in compliance
with the order.
 Test results are supplied.
