Panchakarma therapies can effectively manage geriatric pain with minimal side effects compared to NSAIDs. Abhyanga, shastika shali pinda sveda, patra pinda sveda, localized bastis like kati, griva and janu bastis, and therapies like shirodhara are beneficial for conditions like arthritis, spinal issues, and musculoskeletal pains common in elderly patients. Panchakarma procedures help strengthen muscles, nourish tissues, improve circulation and flexibility, and rejuvenate the body for healthy aging compared to long term reliance on oral medications.

It decreases the effect of ageing and thus increases life expectancy. • It benefits the sleep patterns, strengths body’s tolerance, imparts a firmness to the limbs; tone and vigor to the Dhatus (tissues) of the body • Swedna • which relieves Stambh(stiffness) and Gurava (heaviness) of body. • Shashtika Shali Pinda Sveda • It is a process by which the whole body is made to perspire by the application of Shali rice in the form of bolus tied up in a cotton cloth • This is beneficial in disease of nervous system, spinal cord degeneration, degenerative disorders etc. It is used to improve muscle strength, rejuvenate re- engergize the body. • Patra Pinda Sweda • This is procedure wherein Snigdh Swedan is done by warm bolus bags containing leaves of medicinal plants having analgesic , anti- inflammatory and anti- degenerative properties. • It is beneficial in lumbar spondylitis, muscular cramps and stiffness of joints and musculoskeletal pains • Localised Basti • Kati Basti • Procedure in which oil is retained in low back region. • Beneficial in disc prolapse, lumbar canal radiculopathies and mechanical backache. • Kati Basti increases circulation in the region thus nourishes and strengthens the muscles and nerves • Griva Basti • Procedure in which oil is retained on back of neck region. • Effective in cervical spondylosis, neck stiffness and cervical radiculopathies and degenerative changes. • Janu Basti • Retaining oil on knee joints in anterior side within the rim of black gram dough. Useful in ligamental injury and Janu Sandhigata Vata • Shirodhara • It is a procedure in which forehead is caressed with a thin continuous stream of medicated lukewarm oil, milk, Takra etc. • It can be beneficial in hypertension, chronic headaches, migraines, insomnia and memory loss. • Basti • It is best therapy for Vataj Roga and in old age predominant Dosha is Vata • Niruh Basti • It maintains the age, strength, Agni, intelligence, voice, complexion and beneficial for all groups. • Yapna Basti • Probably Niruh does Lekhan and Anuvasan Brimhan but Yapna Basti have both qualities so it can be performed continuously without Anuvasan Basti hence Yapna Basti is Srotoshodhan and Brihman at a time. • It is Balya, Vrishya and Rasayana in nature. • Matra Basti • The Basti which is given in low dose i.e. Hrisva Matra of Sneha. It can be given any time without any restrictions and precautions. Matra Basti is Balya, Brimhan and Vataroghar. Conclusions
Thus we concluded that the Panchakarma therapies are safe and
effective so can be successfully adopted in the geriatric patients for pain management and transform painful ageing in blissful scenario of life. THANKING YOU
