• Introduction
• Geriatric Pain may be defined as “ an unpleasant sensory and
emotional experience associated with potential tissue damage.”
• Pain is one of the most common complaints of elderly patients
seeking medical care.
• Consequences of pain are broad spectrum like depression, decreased
socialization, sleep disturbance, impaired ambulance which affects
daily routine work.
• It is the result of progressive degenerative processes like arthritis,
osteoarthritis, degenerative spinal changes and neuropathies
Need Of Study
• The prevalence of persistent pain increases with age; increases in joint pain
and neuralgias are common.
• Now a time majority of elderly people were treated with over the counter
drugs and most of taking NSAIDs.
• Majority of people were taking non prescription medicines.
• NSAIDs have wide range of side effects in elderly people in which
gastrointestinal ulcer and bleeding are most common and many life
threating side effects are associated.
• Specifically in the elderly, NSAIDs has become leading cause of
hospitalization.
• So there is need of Panchakarma procedures which are preventive for
future age problems, curative for diseases and rejuvenate the health with
mininmum oral medications and limited complications ultimately for
healthy ageing.
