MUSCULAR SYSTEM
MUSCLES
- It allow us to move. Although bones are joined in different
ways to allow movement, they cannot do so without the
Muscles that are attached to them. All the muscles in the body make
up the MUSCULAR SYSTEM.
- It is consists of fibers or muscle cells that are held together. Muscles
Are large, small and some are long and others are short.
- Your muscles make up 40 percent of your total weight.
Functions of MUSCLES

 The muscles work in pairs, either pulling or relaxing. Biceps and

Triceps are long muscles in the upper arm.
Example: When you bend your arm, the biceps shorten or
contract while the triceps relax.
 The biceps pulls the bones of the lower arm.
Example: When you put your arms down, the triceps
contract and the biceps relax.
 The elbow tightened because the triceps pulled the bones of the
lower arm. The biceps and triceps work as a pair.

THREE TYPES OF MUSCLES TISSUE

SMOOTH MUSCLE

- Smooth muscle is found inside of organ

like the stomach, intestines, and blood
vessels
- Smooth Muscle or Visceral Muscle is
controlled by the unconscious part of the
brain it is known as involuntary muscles –
it cannot be controlled by the conscious
mind.
CARDIAC MUSCLE

- Cardiac Muscle is found only in the

heart. Cardiac muscle tissue cannot be
controlled consciously, so it is an
involuntary muscle.
SKELETAL MUSCLE

- Is the only voluntary muscle tissue in the human

body- it is controlled consciously. Every physical
action that a person consciously performs (e.g.
speaking, walking or writing) requires skeletal
muscle.
- Most skeletal muscles are attached to two
bones across a joint, so the muscle serves to
move parts of those bones closer to each other.
