Uttar

Pradesh
Infant
Birth
Uttar Pradesh one of
the most populous
states in the country,
historically is
known for its bad
health performance
especially with
respect to maternal
and child
health
Due to this the
Government of UP
and National Health
Mission have
pioneered many
health programs in
the state over the
past few years!
Did those programs work?
Were there any improvements made?
Should the government launch a campaign to
showcase the improvements?
If so, which is that champion state?
Let’s See !
Based on % of Institutional birth, the states can
be categorized those districts which showed a
growth in the percentage over the 3-year data on
an average as districts with “Stable Growth” and
others as ones with “Inconsistent Growth”
These 14 districts were considered for the further
analysis to find champion state

Districts Sum of Average 2019 Sum of Average 2018 Sum of Average 2017
Ambedkar Nagar 81.31111522 79.79238941 78.29524955
Amroha 68.76037876 68.66940215 67.82461938

Gautam Buddha Nagar 100 96.45735917 95.36393878

Ghaziabad 97.46313968 79.89176259 64.35439896
Hapur 74.18923689 62.99181903 26.60517213
Kanpur Nagar 72.59925034 70.31636027 64.2861902
Kushinagar 64.41472824 52.35141698 43.68365564
Moradabad 67.21160652 65.43210669 59.55860257
Muzaffarnagar 96.79844437 75.75836997 71.02840717
Rae Bareli 76.2415587 75.34726596 64.78717029
Grand Total 1030.067986 941.097955 842.7604435
So, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar (for the consistent
growth) and Gautam Buddha Nagar (for
maintaining consistency) are good contenders to
become a Champion state
Now Let’s consider the next parameter:
STILL BIRTH RATIO
Out of the 77 districts, top 10 districts with lowest
still birth ratio were taken and analyzed
Month-wise Still birth ratio
Seeing the improvements in districts, the
government should go on with the campaign and
use these data of districts that showed
improvements to initiate further improvements
The Champion State – “ Ghaziabad “
The 10 states the Government should improve – based on still
birth ratio
“ Key Messages“

The government can use the data to backup the

fact that their programs are showing outputs.
Also the increase in the institutional birth
percentage from 72.3% to 77.1 % from Oct 2017 to
July 2019 & a decrease of still birth ratio from
17% to 14% during the same time period can be
highlighted
