BSC
The main function of the BSC is to control and manage the BSS and the radio channels. It
transfers signalling information to and from the mobiles and manages handovers between
the cells.
The BSC is connected to a BTS via the Abis (CS and PS traffic) interface. CS traffic goes o
the core network through the A interface (CS traffic towards MSC/MGW) or through the A
over IP. A over IP provides cost savings in transport, maintenance and operability as IP-
technology is more cost effective, easily configurable and flexible than TDM networks. PS
traffic goes to the core network through the Gb interface (PS traffic towards SGSN) over
FR or through the optional Gb over IP7
Flexi BSC:The Flexi BSC is a solution for all GSM
markets. The maximum circuit handling capacity of a
Flexi BSC has been extended to support up to 4200
TRXs, while providing the highest traffic handling
capacity of 25000 Erl
mcBSC: Full IP based Multicontroller Platform.
Multicontroller BSC provides capacity for 4400 TRXs
and ver 26000 Erlangs. Modularity enables easy
capacity and, when the need comes to adopt a new
technology, Multi-controller BSC can be converted into a
3G Multicontroller RNC.

PCU
The PCU unit is an independent processing unit logically connected to the BSCU.The
PCU unit performs all the data processing tasks related to GPRS/EDGE traffic. It
implements packet switched traffic oriented Gb and Packet Abis The PCU controls
GPRS/EDGE radio resources and acts as the key unit in the following procedures:
• GPRS/EDGE radio resource allocation and management
• GPRS/EDGE radio connection establishment and management
• Data transfer
• Coding scheme selection
DAP
The pool between the base transceiver station and
base station controller that is dynamically allocated in
16 kbit/s blocks for EDGE data calls
Dynamic Abis is always required with EGPRS,
Coding Schemes CS-3 and CS-4.

BAL
With this object you define the frequencies of the BCCH frequency list. It´s used for matrix
interference purposes.
If either any of the Common BCCH are used or ISHO Support feature is used, the max is
31. If any of the Common BCCH feature and also ISHO Support feature is used, the max
is 30.
MAL
The frequencies for a hopping cell are defined by attaching the cell to one of the mobile
allocation frequency lists (MA-lists) defined by the operator.
The maximum number of frequencies in one mobile
allocation frequency list is 63

Neighbours (ADCE, ADJW, ADJL)
ADCE: The adjacent GSM cell object collection contains parameters specific to the
adjacent GSM cell. There is an adjacent GSM cell object for each adjacent GSM cell.
ADJW: The adjacent UTRAN cell object collection contains parameters specific to the
adjacent WCDMA RAN cell and adjacent RAN cell
ADJL: This object contains informations for LTE (Long Term Evolution) related
adjacent cell parameters. The configurations enhanced mobiles station to execute
autonomous cell reselections (CS and PS cell reselection) from GSM cells to LTE
cells.

HOC & POC: Handover Control & Power Control
The required parameters are stored in the BSS Radio Network Configuration
Database. All parameters controlling the handover and power control are administered
either on a cell-by-cell basis or on a transceiver-by-transceiver basis by using the local
MMI in the BSC site or NetAct. By changing the values of the parameters it is possible
to affect the RF power control and handover decisions at all stages of the procedure,
that is, during measurement preprocessing, threshold comparison, and the decision
algorithm.

RNC
• The logical object of the Radio Network Controller
• It can have up to 2800 WBTS objects (requires RNC 2600)
• The logical object are hierarchically related to each other, therefore it is not possible to
create any other object before RNC creation.

WBTS
• The logical object of the WCDMA Base Station (Node B). A WBTS can have up to 24
WCDMA cells, 1 COCO and 1 IPNB object.
• If Iub transport QoS is used, WBTS connects to 1 TQM object

HOP x
The Handover Path object stores mainly Cell Reselection & Intra-Frequency HHO
parameters. One HOPx can be related to several Adjacency objects.
The maximum number of HOPx objects within 1 category is 100.
• E.g. for different type of cells (urban, rural, macro/micro/pico)
HOP Types:
• HOPS — object for intra-frequency
Handover Path
• HOPI — object for inter-frequency
Handover Path
• HOPG — object for inter-system
Handover Path
• HOPL — object for LTE path

ADJ x
• Adjacencies for WCDMA cell refers to a handover relationship between two
cells. They are defined for neighbouring cells.
• ADJS — object for intra-frequency Adjacency
• ADJI — object for inter-frequency Adjacency
• ADJG — object for inter-system Adjacency
• ADJL — object for LTE Adjacency
• ADJD — object for detected intra-frequency Adjacency
