ENSURING WATER FOR HPP

DURING CLIMATE CHANGE

BUILDING MULTIPLE DAMS ACROSS A RIVER
• Data Required is massive
• Exclusive Hydrological Survey is Necessary
• Pondage can be used as water storage
• Dams should be constructed such that the preceding dam should be
above the 100 Year Flood Line of the succeeding dam
• Infrastructure and Data Centric thereby expensive
• The Columbia River (USA), running from British Columbia to
Washington state & Oregon, has 14 dams on the main stem and many
more on tributaries
BUILDING MODELS OF RIVERS
• Major Hydrological Survey of the nation required
• Building Computer Models that can correctly “predict” rivers
• The result from the models can then be used to forecast stage of river
during extreme climate events
• The models can thereby prompt pre-emptive action
• This result if utilized properly can be a tool to predict the future
feasibility of HPP
• This method is expensive and data-centric
