STUDY AREA
 KTKOC-II( Kakatiya khani open cast mine),which is located at the Jayashankar
Bhupalpally District of Telangana.

The Study Area lies between 18°19’23.978"N, 18°35’43.336“N Latitude and

79°42’43.138“E and 79°59’40.772”E Longitude.

It Covers 6 Mandals (Malhalrao , Ghanpur ,Bhupalpally, Chityal, Kataram, Mahadevpur )

and 42 villages.

Area: 706.2388 Sq.km

OBJECTIVES
• To Characterize the present status of the environment &Identify, map and
determine the extent of land use land cover and its condition in the study
area by using Temporal remote sensing data.

• To Analyze the changes in the study area of different years (5 years, 2015
to 2019).

• To Identify and Quantify the significance of impacts of various activities

at the mine (up to 15 km buffer) Environmental

• To conclude the impact of coal mining on soil environment, water

environment , Air and Noise and socio-economic environment.

Literature Review
 Application of Remotely Sensed Data and GIS in Assessing the Impacts of Mining
Activities on the Environment.
T.Woldai (2001): International Institute for Aerospace Survey & Earth Sciences (ITC).
Enschede, The Netherlands .
E. Charou et al.,(2009): The main of this work was to evaluate the use of multi-
temporalLandsat-5 and Landsat-7 images, SPOT Panchromatic, and ASTER data to map
the natural environment on a local scale, and to assess the impact of mining activities
by indicating the changes on land and water resources.
David Paul et al.,(2007): The monitoring of mining in remote locations is problematic
due to difficulties of access. Satellite remote sensing is able to provide information on
landscape transformation in a cost-effective way around large-scale mines. The PT
Freeport Indonesia mine in Papua (Indonesia) is the world’s large stcopper-gold mine
and previous studies have documented a range of impacts. A multi-temporal analysis of
Landsat 5imagery of the Freeport area was undertaken for the years between 1988 and
2004.
