AND THE MOST BENEFICIAL” Respected Sir and my dear classmates Assalam o Alekum ! M Sohaib Azeem F18 MSEE-793 Zeeshan Irshad F19-MSEE-787 PLC INTRODUCTION
• . A Programmable Logic Controller, or PLC, is a ruggedized
computer used for industrial automation. These controllers can automate a specific process, machine function, or even an entire production line PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEM
Process control systems (PCS), sometimes called industrial
control systems (ICS), function as pieces of equipment along the production line during manufacturing that test the process in a variety of ways, and return data for monitoring and troubleshooting. e THE CPU EXPLAINED
• The CPU controls all system activity primarily through its
processor and memory system. The CPU consists of a microprocessor, memory chip and other integrated circuits to control logic, monitoring and communications. The CPU has different operating modes. In programming mode the CPU will accept changes to the downloaded logic from a PC. When the CPU is placed in run mode it will execute the program and operate the process. Input data from connected field devices (e.g., switches, sensors, etc.) Input module Analog input module Analog inputs can be pressure, temperature etc. These values are converted into electrical signals using transducers. These act as analog inputs. ANALOG OUTPUT MODULE
• PLC generates electric signals which are converted into analog
values for Pneumatic or hydraulic valves. These can be considered as outputs. PT100
accuracy over a wide temperature range (from –200 to +850 °C). Standard sensors are are available from many manufacturers with various accuracy specifications and numerous packaging options to suit most applications. Unlike thermocouples, it is not necessary to use special cables to connect to the sensor. THERMOCOUPLE
• thermoelectric device for measuring temperature, consisting
of two wires of different metals connected at two points, a voltage being developed between the two junctions in proportion to the temperature difference. PROGRQMING OF PLC
