Eight Environmental Impact categories
• Abiotic depletion
• Acidification
• Ecotoxity: ecotoxicity from washing (water heating and detergents) and dying of textiles;
• Global warming
• Eutrophication: energy use, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, nutrients releases (leading to
eutrophication)
• Human toxicity
• Ozone layer depletion
• Photochemical oxidation
INNOVATION Defined….
• Peter Drucker defines innovation as: “the act that endows resources with a
new capacity to create wealth", and continues: "Innovation, indeed, creates a
resource. There is no such things as a resource until man finds a use for
something in nature and thus endows it with economic value. Until then,
every plant is a weed and every mineral just another rock.”
Sustainable Textile Innovation
HEMP:
Anti bacterial ,durable and resilient .Fast Growing plant consumes less
water. No need of Herbicides,Pesticides ,Synthetic fertilizers or GMO seeds.
China currently accounts for more than 50%of Global production.
STINGING NETTLE FIBRE :
Urtica dioica keeps wearer warm in winter and vice versa.
Sustainable Textile Innovation
COFFEE GROUND FIBRE:
Anti odour,UV ray protection and Quick drying time
PINEAPPLE FIBRE:
The fibres are extracted from Pineapple leaves through decortication
process. The non woven product is alternative to Leather.
BANANA FIBRE:
Fibre is made from the stem of the Banana tree. Easily Blended with cotton
and fabric is made both in weaving and knitting.
Sustainable Textile Innovation
Mushroom:
Natural,Sustainable, Bio degradable and safe for skin
Fibre from Mushroom is flame retardant, strong, resilient ,light weight and
bendable.
KELP Fibre
Kelps are large brown algae seaweeds.
Sustainable Textile Innovation
NANOLLOSE
The microbial nanocellulose is environmentally sustainable alternative to plant based
cellulose materials.
The microbial cellulose is produced by converting liquid bio mass waste products from
coconut beer ,sugar, and liquid food stream
BIO PLASTIC
Using waste methane gas to make natural material with properties similar to
plastics.
Non –GMO bacteria produce polyhydroxyalkanoate(PHA) using gas fermentation
process
Sustainable Textile Innovation
BIO PLASTIC from COW MANURE
The pulp acts as the new incredient for cellulose –derivatives like
Cellulose acetate (BIO Plastics) and viscose.
ORANGE FIBRE
The soft ,siky and light weight fabrics made from citrus juice
byproducts.
Disruptive Innovation
“Disruption” describes a process whereby a smaller company with fewer
resources is able to successfully challenge established incumbent businesses
