person that is influenced by the
intake and utilization of
nutrients

•The blood-forming nutrients: iron, folacin, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12
•Water-soluble vitamins: thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin C;
•The fat-soluble vitamins: A, D, E, and K

Dietary evaluation
study or activity intended to measure the
quantity and quality of diets of individual
or population or groups in a particular
area for a given period of time
What is your nutritional status?
Exercise 1

Get your:

A. Height
B. Weight.
Body Mass Index
an index for assessing overweight and
underweight, obtained by dividing body
weight in kilograms by height in meters
squared:

BMI Formula = Weight (kg)

___________
Height (m) 2

Abbreviation: BMI.
Exercise 2

distribution as an indicator of health risk.
Waist circumference
The circumference of
the abdomen,
measured at the natural
waist (in-between the
lowest rib and on top of
the hip bone), the
umbilicus, or at the
narrowest point of the
midsection
Waist-hip ratio (WHR) is another useful measure of
central obesity.
Measuring Waist Hip Ratio (WHR)

WHR = Waist Circumference (cm)

______________________
Hip Circumference (cm)

 Interpretation:

 Normal WHR = Men (<1.0)

Women (<0.85)

 Central or Android Obesity = Men (>_1.0)

Women (>_0.85)
 Source: PASOO Recommendations, 2000
Waist Hip Ratio – measures abdominal fat

Waist (cm) divided by hip (cm)

Female – 0.80 or higher
Male - 0.95 or higher

Waist circumference:
Men >102 cm or 40 inches
Women >88 cm or 35 inches
Exercise 6
Get your waist and hip
measurement and compute for
your Waist and Hip Ratio
Body Frame According to Wrist
Size
Wrap the fingers of one hand
around the opposite. IF the thumb
and middle finger:

Overlap by 1 cm = small frame

Touch = medium frame
Cannot touch by 1 cm = large
frame
