AUTOMATIC FEED WATER

REGULATOR
This device is essential to
ensure appropriate water level
in all load conditions and is
fitted in the feed line. Multiple
element feed water control
system is used in boilers with
high evaporation rate.
Feedwater regulators is a device that
maintains the water level in a boiler by
controlling the amount of heat water pump to
the boiler. But the basic types are one
element feedwater regulator thermal
expansion and hydraulic.
IMPORTANCE OF AUTOMATIC
FEED WATER REGULATOR
Amount of feedwater is maintained to keep steam
boiler on the range of NOWL (Normal Operation
Water Level). Maintain water level is totally important
to keep steam boiler safe from both short term
overheating or long term overheating and also
damage turbine generator.
MANHOLE
A manhole allows access
to the boiler for cleaning
and repairs. It is usually
elliptical in form and large
enough to admit a man.
The manhole is closed
by a plate or cover made
of cast or wrought iron.
This plate is held to the
seat by a yoke or yokes,
and bolts.
They are used to carry out inspection, cleaning and
removing obstruction in the boiler.
INTERNAL INSPECTIONS are required on steam
boilers that have manhole openings. Manholes allow
for the inspector to physically enter the boiler and
are for the inspection of the steam drums and mud
drums on large water tube boilers and some fire tube
boilers. In order for an individual to gain access to a
boiler through a manhole, there must be a confined
space entry permit procedure in place for proper and
safe entry.
Mud boxes are fitted MUD DRUM
into the machinery
space bilge suction
piping. The mud box is
a coarse strainer with
a straight tailpipe
down to the bilge . To
enable the internal
perforated plate to be
cleaned when
necessary, the lid of
the mud box is easily
removed without
IMPORTANCE OF MUD DRUM
They provide stability in the supply of water
to the boiler tubes, which you want never to
go dry. They also provide a place for
sediments to settle, reducing the amount
which gets deposited in the tubes. They also
provide a place to tap into hot water, for
applications which might require hot water in
addition to steam.
TDS SENSOR AND PROBE
Nowadays, most of the modern boilers are
provided with this arrangement to monitor
the total dissolved solids within the boiler
water continuously. The sensor compares
the true value with the set point, and if the
value is on the higher side, an audio-visual
alarm is given. A manual blowdown can be
done to introduce fresh feedwater to the
system to lower the total dissolved solids.
TDS meter indicates the total dissolved
solids (TDS) of a solution, i.e. the
concentration of dissolved solid particles.
Dissolved ionized solids, such as salts and
minerals, increase the electrical conductivity
(EC) of a solution. Because it is a volume
measure of ionized solids, EC can be used
to estimate TDS
Electrical conductivity of water is directly
related to the concentration of dissolved
ionized solids in the water. Ions from the
dissolved solids in water create the ability for
that water to conduct an electric current,
which can be measured using a
conventional conductivity meter or TDS
meter.
IMPORTANCE OF TDS
SENSOR AND PROBE
The total dissolved solids present in water
are one of the leading causes of turbidity
and sediments in boiler. ... These solids are
primarily minerals, salts, and organic matter
that can be a general indicator of water
quality.
