Basic Problems
Traveling at 4/5th of usual speed a man is 15 min late. What is the usual time
to cover the same distance?
(a) 1 hour (b) 75 min
(b) 30 min (d) 45 min
A person saves 180 min when he increases his speed from 25 km/hr to 30
km/hr to cover a certain distance. Find the distance.
(a) 500 km (b) 420 km
(c) 250 km (d) 450 km
Speed of Ajay while going away from city is 60 km/hr and his speed while
returning towards the city is 40 km/hr. If the total time of journey cannot
exceed 8 hours, how far can he go so that he returns back to city within 8
hours?
(a) 192 km (b) 202 km
(c) 186 km (d) 156 km
Basic Problems
If the driver drives the bus at the speed of 30 km/hr he would reach the
destination in time. He covers half of the journey in 4/5th time. What should
be his speed for the remaining part of the journey so that he reaches his
destination in time?
(a) 50 km/hr (b) 75 km/hr
(b) 60 km/hr (d) 45 km/hr
Average Speed
A car travel from A to B at 90 km/hr and returns back at 60 km/hr. Find the
average speed of car for the entire journey.
(a) 75 km/hr (b) 72 km/hr
(c) 70 km/hr (d) 80 km/hr

Relative speed = SA + SB

Relative Speed
The distance between two cities A and B is 330 Km. A train starts from A at 8
a.m. and travel towards B at 60 km/hr. Another train starts from B at 9 a.m
and travels towards A at 75 Km/hr. At what time do they meet?
(a) 10 a.m. (b) 10:30 a.m.
(c) 11 a.m. (d) 11:30 a.m.
An artillery gun was fired twice at an interval of 24 sec. A jeep driver who is
traveling towards the gun heard the sound after an interval of 22 sec. If the
sound is traveling at the speed of 330 m/s, find the speed of jeep.
(a) 11 m/s (b) 22 m/s
(c)24 m/s (d) 30 m/s

When two persons A and B are running a race, they can start the race at the
same time or one of them may start a race little later than the other. As per the
second case, suppose if B starts the race 10 seconds after A starts, then we
say A has a ‘start’ of 10 seconds.
A

START FINISH
Races
It may be also possible that these competitors may start at the same point
or one person is ahead of other right from the beginning. As per the second
case, suppose if B is starting from the start point, while A is starting from 10
meters ahead of B (start point), then we say A has got a ‘start’ of 10 meters.

We can Say –
B beats A by 20 m
B beats C by 30 m
A beats C by 10 m
Races
Raju is 4/3 times as fast as Pavan. If Pavan has a head start of 50 m, what
should be the length of race track such that both of them reach the finishing
point at same time?
(a) 90 m (b) 200m
(c) 50 m (d) 150 m
Circular Track
A 5 m/s
B Time required to meet
4 m/s = L . (Same
anywhere on the circular
track for 1st time SA - SB direction)
Start = L . (Opposite
SA + SB direction)
L = 400 m
T A = L / SA T B = L / SB
Circular Track
P and Q start at the same from the start point and run around a track of 1500
m length at the respective speed of 20 m/s and 15 m/s in opposite direction.
After how much time will they meet at the start point for 2nd time ?
(a) 100 sec (b) 300 sec
(c) 400 sec (d) 600 sec
Boats & Streams
b – speed of boat in still water
w – speed of water current
SUpstream = b – w
SDownstream = b + w
