Carlos Quirino (1977) In 1977, President Ramos created Historical Literature as a new category in the National Artist Awards and Quirino was it’s first, and so far it’s only recipient. He wrote “The Great Malayan” one of the earliest biographies of Jose Rizal. His book “Maps and views of old Manila” is considered as the best book in the subject. His other books include “Quezon, man of destiny” “Magsaysay of the Philippines” “Lives of the Philippine Presidents” “Philippine Cartography” “The history of the Philippine Sugar Industry” “Filipino heritage: the making of a nation” and “Filipinos at war: The fight for freedom from mactan to EDSA.” Dance

Alice Reyes (2014) She is a dancer , choreographer, teacher and director from Manila. She made a lasting impact on the development and promotion of contemporary dance in the Philippines. The biggest contribution of Alice Reyes to Philippine dance is the development of a distinctly Filipino modern dance idiom. Reyes utilized inherently Filipino materials and her subject matters we’re expressed through a combination of movements and styles from Philippine Indigenous Dance, modern dance and classical ballet. 2. Region 2 Central Luzon Francisca Reyes Aquino (1973) She’s known as “Mother of Philippine folk dancing.” She made a research in 1926 titled “Philippine folk dances amd games” She served as Supervisor of Physical education at the Bureau of education in the 1940’s. Her books include : Philippine national dances (1946); Gymnastics for girls (1947); Fundamental dance steps and music (1948); Foreign folk dances (1949); Dances for all occasions (1950); Playground demonstration (1951); and Philippine folk dances, volumes I to IV. 3. Region 5 Bicol Region Ramon Obusan (2006) He’s dancer, choreographer, stage designer and artistic director. He is an acclaimed archivist, researcher and documentary filmmaker. He also founded Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group in 1971. He received the Patnubay ng Kalinangan award in 1992, the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining award in 1993 and the prestigious National Artist of the Philippines for dance in May 2006. He choreographed : Vamos a Belen! Series, Noon Po sa Amin, Obra Maestra, Unpublished Dances of the Philippines, Water, Fire and Life, Philippine Dances and Music—A Celebration of Life, Saludo sa Sentenyal, Glimpses of ASEAN, Dances and Music of the ASEAN-Member Countries, and saplot (Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group): Philippines Costumes in Dance. 4. Region 6 Western Visayas Lucrecia Reyes – Urtula (1988) She became the dance director of Bayanihan Philippine Dance and choreographed collections of Mountain dances, Spanish influence dance, Muslim Pageants and festivals, and regional variations and regional variations and dances of the countryside for the group. Lucrecia also served as artistic director for dance at the Folk Arts Theater, conceptualized and managed the Philippine Folk Dance Society, among others. She was awarded National Artist for Dance in 1988 5. Region 15 Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindano Leonor Orosa Goquingco (1976) Orosa-Goquingco is known as the "Mother of Philippine Dance Theater" and "Dean of Filipino Performing Arts Critics." Born in Jolo, Sulu, Orosa-Goquinco finished a BS Education degree, summa cum laude at St. Scholastica's College. She then took graduate courses in theater craft, drama, and music at Columbia University and Teachers College in New York. She became the recipient of various awards, including a Presidential Award of Merit in 1970. She was awarded National Artist for Dance in 1976.
