ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION SKYHIVE2020 THE ANNUAL BEE BREEDERS SKYSCRAPER CHALLENGE

WHY AS THESIS PROJECT ?


1 . One of the basic aim of undertaking this topic as a thesis is to learn the concepts, internal & physical interrelations & planning
ground realities about the designing of a SKYSCRAPER (MULTIFUNCTIONAL HIGH RISE BUILDING ).

2 . I wanted to design an ambience for the people to relax & interact with the view of growth & togetherness.

Participants of the SKYHIVE Challenge are tasked with creating a concept for a state-of-the-art tower
that breaks from the norm.
JUSTIFICATION OF TOPIC SELECTION :

1 Designing this SKYSCRAPER mixed use building will give me an opportunity to study how different uses can be
integrated in a same complex/ building.

2. It will provide an opportunity to study the SKYSCRAPER high rise buildings in detail.

a. The various structure systems involved in a SKYSCRAPER high rise building.

b. The various services required in a high rise building like: - Parking - Fire Fighting -HVAC -Waste Disposal -
Vertical & Horizontal Circulation

SCOPE :

1. The mixed use development by virtue of its need becomes a landmark place and is of PRIME importance.

2. It is a node of Multiple Activities.

3. KINETISM AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY of the building.

THE COMPETITION SITE

The participants are permitted to choose a hypothetical site ( 130m x 80m ) accessed by two roads on both
the longer and shorter side of the site. It can be located in a city of their choice.

The site context and surroundings are to be assumed.


• Maximum allowed site density 100%.
• There is no maximum building height defined.
• There is no minimum distance requirement from the road or neighbouring buildings. Participants may place
their building/s at the edge of the site boundary if they find it beneficial to their design proposal.
• There are no restrictions for underground construction.

OPTION 2 : NID (National Institute of
Design )
AIM:

• To develop design curricula which best support the development of the creative industries in India through the
nurturing of talents, and which can adapt to support a through train for design education with emphasis on
fundamental knowledge and skills, while promoting a closer synergy with secondary schools and collaboration
with regional and international institutes.

• To enable the students to develop a sense of social and professional commitments.

LIVE PROPOSAL SITE :

The proposed NID will be built on 20acres of land in Kurukshetra allotted by the Harayana Government in
India.

The site is allocated within agricultural land along the National Highway 01. The site has 6 acres of its land in
the green belt area of national highway. However 10% construction has been allowed over this area.

Total site area available for construction is 14 acres with Ground coverage of 25%.
SCOPE OF NID :

■ If we look at the current scenario in India we can count the number of design schools we have on fingers. We have
the NID at Ahmedabad and IDC at IIT Powai. IIT Kanpur. IIT Delhi IIT Guwahati and IISC Bangalore too have their own
small design departments.
■ These design schools are not enough to cater the needs of 1 billion people in India and several billion people
abroad.
■ Most people don't even understand the term design. For understanding the process of design and that will make
another step forward in the direction of role of architecture in design education.

National Institute of Design, Kurukshetra is an upcoming design institute located at Umri village of Kurukshetra,
district Haryana.

OPTION 3 : Beach Resort and Golf Course, Mangalore

OBJECTIVES:

To study the prescribed requirement as per the development controls implicated on the site. To analyze the
relationship between the use and users. To study the architectural features and draw appropriate guidelines for
designing a resort with a comfortable and conductive environment.

Designing of the resort to be done, keeping in mind the humid climatic conditions. To lay emphasis on the
landscape design and build form in accordance with the surroundings. To propose a design which is
environmentally responsive and aesthetically appealing. To achieve an appropriate level and standard of all
services required in a beach resort.
SCOPE OF STUDY:
The Indian tourism has grown aggressively the last few years bringing an overall increases in the foreign
exchange earnings from tourism. Tourism has become the largest industry in the world when measured in terms
of employment.
The hospitality industry in India has to establish itself as the provider as the provider of world class
accommodation services.
