hydroxide
 𝐵𝑒(𝑂𝐻)2 is amphoteric hydroxide of the gel state
badly dissolved in water solutions.
 𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)2 is amphoteric hydroxide practically not
dissolved in water. In ordinary conditions hydroxide is
colorless cristall having 5 polymorphic modifications.
Chemical properties
Acids
 𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)2 + 2HCl = 𝑍𝑛𝐶𝑙2 +𝐻2 O
 𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)2 +𝐻2 S𝑂4 = 𝑍𝑛𝑆𝑂4 +𝐻2 O
• Acid oxides
𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)2 +C𝑂2 = 𝑍𝑛𝐶𝑂3 +𝐻2 O
• Alkali
• 𝐵𝑒(𝑂𝐻)2 +KOH= 𝐾2 𝐵𝑒(𝑂𝐻)4
• 𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)2 +KOH= 𝐾2 (𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)4 )+𝐻2 O
Dissolution
𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)2 → 𝑍𝑛𝑂 + 𝐻2 O
𝐵𝑒(𝑂𝐻)2 → 𝐵𝑒𝑂 + 𝐻2 O
The excess of ammonium
𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)2 +4𝑁𝐻3 = (𝑍𝑛(𝑁𝐻3 ) 4 )𝑂𝐻2
 Obtaining
𝑍𝑛(𝑁03 )2 + 2NaOH = 𝑍𝑛(𝑂𝐻)2 +2𝑁𝑎𝑁𝑂3
