Topic: Daily motion and horizontal system of co-
ordinates

should be able to :

1. defines 'rational horizon', 'zenith' and 'nadir’;


2. defines 'vertical circle' and 'prime vertical circle’;
3. defines 'elevated pole' and 'depressed pole’;
4. proves that the altitude of the elevated pole is equal
to the observer's latitude;
5. defines the observer's upper and lower celestial
meridian;
6. dentifies the apparent daily path of all bodies;
7. defines 'true altitude', 'azimuth', and 'true zenith
distance’;
8. explains the relationship between azimuth,
quadrantal bearings and 360 degrees notation
bearing;
9. recognizes rising and setting points and defines
amplitude;
10.explains the meaning of the term circumpolar and
describes the conditions necessary for a body to be
circumpolar;
11.describes the condition necessary for a body to cross
the prime vertical;
12. recognizes the parts of the PZX triangle;
13.draws figures on the plane of the rational horizon
and of the observer's celestial meridian, using the
equidistant projection to illustrate navigational
problems and principles.
