- the surroundings or conditions in which a
person, animal, or plant lives or operates.

- It comprises the set of natural, social and


cultural values existing in a place and at a
particular time, that influence in the life of
the human being.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AFFECTING
BRAIN DEVELOPMENT
1. Stimulants (Audio-visual)
- agents that produce the increase of the functional activity or
efficiency of an organism or any of its parts.
- are one of the major environmental factors that affect how the
brain of a child develops, and his/her ability to learn and
understand.
2. Drugs,Toxins and Diseases
- exposure to these factors could result
to problems such as impaired speech,
poor mental skills, poor language skills,
low intelligence, and learning problems.

3. Abuse and Neglect

- part of emotional environment surrounding a


child, and it has been shown to have a very significant
negative influence on brain development and learning
capabilities of a child.
4. Love and Emotional Attachment
- offers a positive influence by
offering trust and security to the children or
people and allowing them to develop a
positive emotional environment.

Medulla

- the most fully developed at


birth.
Cerebral Cortex

- parts that regulate vital


functions and respiration.

- the least developed part
of the brain. Midbrain

- involved in perception,
body movement, thinking, Medulla
and language (Bee and
Boyd, 2002).
BRAIN LATERALIZATION
- refers to the idea that the right and left sides of the brain are
specialized for certain skills.

Trivia:
• 95% of the brain functions are laterized through a pattern
called Left-Brain Dominance.
