• Two or more tissues types working together
for a common function is referred to as an
organ

• There are four types of tissues
– Epithelial
– Connective
– Muscular
– Nervous
• The tissues originally arise from embryonic
tissue

• When studying tissues, examine two aspects
– Cell characteristics: Shape, size, nucleus location
– Extra cellular matrix
• Space around the cells
• From no space to lots of space
• Filled with various substances
