Silver Jubilee Clock Tower is seen on the northern side of main palace
at Gandhi Square and Town Hall in Mysore.
It was built in 1927 to celebrate the 25 years completed rule of Maharaja
Krishnaraja Wadeyar IV.
It is well known by common man as ‘Doddagadiyara’ (big clock)
because comparatively there is another "small clock" named as
Dufferin Clock Tower located near KR Circle, widely known as
‘Chikkagadiyara’.
It is constructed in Indo Saracenic style.
This makes up the tower to be simple, majestic and detailed.
It is 75 feet tall.
The clock is 5 feet in diameter bearing numerals used in Kannada
language.
It is an aesthetic structure and stands amidst a circular platform.
The curved chhajja by its appearance and colour seems to be of
Rajasthani tradition.
English church architecture is apparently visible on windows on its
double arches.
The tower is painted red at the bottom and stony coloured at the top.
The Clock Tower looks stunning at night when it's beautifully lit.
The Rangacharlu Memorial Hall, also known as the Mysore
Town Hall, located near the City Bus Stand.
This two-story heritage structure was built in 1880 in
memory of C.V. Rangacharlu, first ever Diwan of Mysore.
Earlier the kingdom of Mysore was under the direct control
of the British Crown.
This Greece-Roman building on a raised platform has a nice
facade with Corinthian grand columns, in four pairs
supporting heavy roof.
The front part has windows with Roman arch with
shutters and sun-rise glazing.
The parapet walls in the balconies are made of cast-iron
and well-decorated.
The Town hall is one of the major venues for hosting
cultural events during the ten-day Dasara festival.
It was opened in 1870.
The elevation is 760 m high.
The ground floor is 2 story high.
The 1st floor was built as normal height.
There are 6 platforms.
The station is a heritage marvel.
The magnificently lined simple slender columns which
make this railway station a landmark in the city of
places.
The railway station was designed by famed architect
D.V. Narasimha Rao.
