Pyrophoric Materials

Pyrophoric materials (PMs) have the ability to


spontaneously ignite, without the influence of
heat or fire, in air at temperatures of 130o F
(54o C) or below. They can be in the solid,
liquid or gas phase. Most commonly PM is
pyrophoric iron sulfide. The potential for PM
accumulation in petroleum exploration and
production equipment is well known.
