RIZAL IN SPAIN
 3 May 1882
- Rizal left the country to pursue further
studies abroad.
- He enrolled in a course in medicine at
the Universidad Central de Madrid in Spain.

RIZAL IN PARIS, FRANCE
 17 June 1882
- Rizal arrived in Paris.

 18 June 1882
- With Felipe Zamora and Cunanan, he visited
the Leannac Hospital to observe how Dr. Nicaise
treated his patients.

 19 June 1882
- He again visited Dr. Nicaise who showed the
technique of operation. Later, he went to see the
Musee Dupuytren.

 20 June 1882
- Rizal visited the Lariboisiere Hospital where
Felix Pardo de Tavera was an extern.

RIZAL BACK IN MADRID
 Rizal returned to Madrid
and thought about
publishing a book that
exposed the colonial
relationship of Spain and
the Philippines. This idea
was realized in March
1887, with the
publication of the
novel Noli Me Tangere in
Germany.

RIZAL IN MANILA
 5 August 1887
- Rizal returned to Manila after 5 years of
study and patriotic labors in Europe.

 Six months later, Rizal left Manila for Hongkong.


From Hong Kong, Rizal traveled to Macau and
Japan before going to America. Entering San
Francisco, California, in April 1888, he visited the
states of Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska,
Illinois, and New York.

RIZAL IN LONDON
 16 May 1888
- He left New York
for Liverpool onboard the
City of Rome.
- He chose this
English city because of three
reasons:
1. To improve his knowledge 3. London was a safe place
of the English language. from the attacks of Spanish
2. To Study and annotate tyranny.
Morga’s Sucesos de las
Islas Filipinas, which he
heard to be available in the
British Museum.

 In August, he was admitted to the British
Museum, where he copied Antonio de Morga’s
massive study of the Philippines, Sucesos de las
Islas Filipinas, which Rizal later annotated for
publication “as a gift to the Filipinos”.

 From 1888 to 1890 he shuttled between London


and Paris, where he wrote ethnographic and
history-related studies, as well as political
articles.

RIZAL IN FRANCE
 29 March 1891
- Rizal finished
writing his second novel,
El Filibusterismo.

RIZAL IN GHENT, BELGIUM


 September 1890
- El Filibustersmo was publish in Ghent using
the donations from Rizal’s friends.

 After the success of his second novel, the El
Filibusterismo, Rizal left Europe for Hongkong for
two reasons:

1. His widening political differences with Marcelo H.


Del Pilar.
2. To be near in the Philipines and his family.

RIZAL IN HONGKONG
 After the publication of El Filibusterismo, Rizal left
Europe for Hong Kong. He lived there from
November, 1891 to June 1892.
 Rizal arrived in Hong Kong on November 20,
1891. He was welcomed by Jose Basa and lived
at Number 5 D’ Aguilar Street where he also
opened his medical clinic.

RIZAL IN MANILA
 In May 1892, Rizal made up his mind to return to
Manila. He gave two letters, which were sealed
and inscribed on it “to be opened after my death”,
to his friend Dr. Marques for safekeeping.
