CAE SPEAKING TEST

WHERE IN SANTIAGO
DO YOU COME FROM?
I used to live in Recoleta, but, about 15
years ago, I moved to La Cisterna, which is
in the northern part of Santiago. 2/5

I’m from La Cisterna, which is in the

northern part of Santiago. However, if only
I could live closer to downtown, I’d be the
happiest man on earth. 3/5
WHERE IN SANTIAGO
DO YOU COME FROM?
I’m from a place called La Cisterna, which is
in the northern part of Santiago; besides,
it’s a 45-minute drive from here.
As a matter of fact, it may as well be a nice
place to live if you’re looking for some peace
and quiet, but, personally, I’d rather live in
the hustle and bustle of downtown
Santiago.

It’s been about 15 years since I started

It’s been over 15 years since I started

learning English at school, where it used to
be my favourite subject. 3/5
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN
LEARNING ENGLISH?

It’s been almost / about / over 15 years

since I started learning English. It used
to be my favourite subject at school,
which is why I decided to pursue my
studies at university in order to become
a teacher of English.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? /
WHAT HOBBIES DO YOU HAVE?
I like tennis and listening to music too. 1/5
I’m really into painting as well as playing
video games.
2/5
I’m very keen on playing sports, such as
volleyball, and especially, soccer, which is
the most popular sport in Chile and South
America 3/5
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? /
WHAT HOBBIES DO YOU HAVE?

Well, I’m interested in a lot of things.

Not only am I fond of table-tennis,
which I enjoy both watching and
playing, but I’m also keen on music and
painting. In fact, I just wish I had
more time to devote to those pastimes.

WHAT KIND OF THINGS DO
YOU DO WITH YOUR FRIENDS?
Well, I usually hang out with my friends, going
to a pub, or going to a concert. 1/5
Actually, I almost never go out, but, when I do,
I’d rather go to the cinema or eat out at a fancy
restaurant with my family. 2/5
I’m a very busy person, so it is extremely hard for
me to spend some time off with my friends.
However, had I time to spare, I’d certainly get
together with all my dear friends at a bar. 3/5
WHAT KIND OF THINGS DO
YOU DO WITH YOUR FRIENDS?

I’ve been snowed under with work

lately, so I hardly ever get to hang out
with my friends. When we do have a
chance to get together, we either go to
the cinema if there’s a good film on, or
chat in a coffee shop.

WHICH PLACE IN THE WORLD
WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT?
I’d love to go to Hawaii. I’d like to be swimming every
single day.
1/5
To be honest, I’d prefer to know my country instead of
going to other places in the world. There’s plenty of
beautiful scenery and landscapes to admire and visit here.
2/5
I’m in love with the English; for this reason, I would
probably choose the United Kingdom. In fact, I would
love to roam round the Westminster Abbey, Piccadilly
Circus and Hyde Park.
3/5
WHICH PLACE IN THE WORLD
WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT?

I’m such an avid traveller that it’s

unbearably hard for me to single out one
place!
But if I were to choose, I’d probably opt
for Paris. After all, it’s considered to be
one of the most beautiful and romantic
cities in the world. 4,5/5 or 5/5
WOULD YOU SAY YOU HAVE A
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?
I think I do. I love playing five-a-side football with my
friends twice a week.
1/5
In fact, I consider myself a couch potato since I don’t do
any sports at all in my everyday life. Nevertheless, I try
not to eat so much junk food nowadays.
2/5
Going on a diet has been a tough decision for me. I used
to have a very sedentary lifestyle, but not anymore. Since
I had a heart attack, I started to go easy on meat and fat
food. My present weight is half the one I had before the
diet. 3/5

WHY IS LEARNING ENGLISH
USEFUL OR IMPORTANT TO YOU?
In general terms, English is the most important language
in the world; that’s why I want to learn how to speak it
well. 1/5
At present times, in this globalised world, people who
don’t speak English are missing out half of their lives.
Either you learn English, or you’ll be in the dark side of
the world. 2/5
First of all, I want to say that I like languages in general
because I consider myself a linguist. However, the lingua
franca of the world is English, so if you want to be part of
everything that is going on worldwide, you should be able
to read, speak and understand English very well. 3/5
